Then produced and read a Letter from the honble Collo Lib. X. John Courts praying Excuse for not attending in Council P. 46 being at present much indisposed Whereupon he is Excused. Appeared before this Board Captain Francis Harbin, Mr Gilbert Clark Thomas Dillion Edwd Fields John Shanks Mr Joshua Guibert Mr John Baptista Carbeny & Kenelm Cheseldyn Esqr & this Board understanding that the said Persons were knowing and had heard of several indirect & evil Actions practices & discourses used & done by Gerrard Slye John Cood Senr Robert Mason & Philip Clark of St Marys County Gent did Order the said Persons to write down their several Depositions wherein they were to set forth the Truth the whole truth & nothing but the Truth what they themselves knew or had heard Concerning the sd Mr Sly Mr Cood Mr Mason & Mr Clark in relation to this his Majestys Governtnent or his Excellency the Governor thereof And thereupon the said persons withdrew & their several Depositions being written they made Oath upon they holy Evangelists before Capt Richard Hill and Mr Thomas Tasker two of his Majestys Iustices of the Provincial Court And the said Depositions were delivered to his Majestys Lawyers
Iune the 30th 1698 Council Sate Present as Yesterday Also were present Captain Richd Hill Thomas Tasker Esqr George Plater Esqr Mr Robt Gouldesborrough & Major William Dent Upon reading a Certain Paragraph in a Letter to his p. 47 Excellency the Governor from the right Honble the Lords of the Council for trade and Foreign Plantations relating to the qur part of the Revenue of 12d p hhd due from his Excellency the late Governor Copleys Estate Whereupon the Several Papers relating thereto being produced were delivered to his Majestys Lawyers who are asked what is done therein & thereupon the said Gentlemen make Answer that Process is issued Geo Plater Esqr his Majestys Receiver of the District of Pattuxent is ordered to draw out of the Iournals of the Council in Assembly & the house of Delegates how the Country Arms &ca are Disposed of & the Reason thereof A Petition of Mr Thomas Grunwyn read wherein he prayed Satisfaction for his Labour and pains in Examining the Accots of the Order of his late Excellency Governor Copley in Order to discover what remained in his which might be applyed to make good the qr part of the 12d for Arms recd by the said Governor Copley the said Petition was referred
