Commission in carrying out its duties with impartiality and

purpose, the General Assembly of Maryland in creating the
|

formalities under which the Convention was organized, the
|
|

voters of Maryland by their election of a non-partisan group
|

of delegates, and you, my fellow delegates, by the discharge
|
|
6
|
of your trust with the creative statesmanship, with the
|
|
7
|
leadership of our great President H. Vernon Eney, have
|
|
8
|
been animated by noble purpose. These efforts have pro-
|
|
9
|
duced a document of hope and progress, both for Marylanders
|
|
10
|
and our fellow Americans in other States.
|
|

|
Permit me to express my appreciation for the
|
|
12
|
honor of participating with you in the discharge of this
|
|
13
|
historic trust.
|

distinguished assembly, as we meet in the closing moments

of this great Convention, we would be less than human if

we did not feel to some degree the weight of history

pressing upon us.
