the state, and the proceeds thereof, after defraying the expenses
of prosecution, shall be paid into the public treasury.

SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That one moiety of all fines and
forfeitures adjudged by or accruing in Baltimore city court,
when and as hereafter secured by the sheriff of Baltimore
county, shall be paid to the mayor and city council of Balti-
more, and that out of such funds the judges of said court may
order and direct to be paid to the attorney-general, or to any or
either of his deputies, such additional fees, not exceeding thirty
dollars in any one case, in cases of extraordinary duration or
trouble, as they shall deem just and reasonable; And provided
further, that this section shall not have any effect upon the
right of informers.

CHAPTER 201.

AN ACT to establish Magistrates' Courts in the several Counties of this
State, and to prescribe their Jurisdiction.
This act is repealed so far as relates to Calvert, Caroline and Cecil
counties.
Other laws are, 1835, ch. 202, 397; 1836, ch. 204, 275, 305 ; 1837, ch.
110, 119, 133, 141, 202, 217, 271, 276; 1838, ch. 8, 65, 70, 144, 157, 222,
278, 294, 380 ; this last act modifies the original law.

 

SEC. 1. Be it enacted, by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That from and after the first day of May next, the number of
justices of the peace in every county of this state, shall be so
appointed as that there shall be three at least always resident in
each election district, and it shall be the duty of the governor
and council to select, appoint and assign three of the said jus-
tices of the peace in each election district, to be justices of a
court to be held in said election district, in the manner herein
after provided, which said justices when so appointed and as-

signed, shall be styled in their commission district justices, and
before they shall act as such and during their continuance in
office, they shall reside within the election district for which
they are appointed, and each of the said district justices, out of
court, shall have and exercise, throughout their respective

tices of the peace therein, and also such further and other
jurisdiction, within their respective districts, as is herein after
given and provided.
