the Code is in the same terms as the Act of 1841, ch. 162, with the pro-
viso, however, that the accused shall not challenge more than twenty
jurors without assigning cause. In trials for common misdemeanors per-
emptory challenges are not allowed, nor are they allowed in the trial of
collateral issues, Post. 42; see Burk v. the State, 2 H. & J. 426.
case. Under sec. 17 of the same article, this provision is made to apply
to criminal eases where the right of peremptory challenge is not allowed.
It is held that where two or more persons are tried together, they consti-
tute but one party, and can together strike out only four names from the
list. Hamlin v. State, 67 Md. 333. The same rule applies in civil cases.
Diamond Co. v. State, 105 Md. 570.

FOR MEASURING OF LAND,
Made Anno 33 EDW. I, Stat. C, and Anno Dom. 1305.
When an Acre of Land coutaineth x Perches in Length, then
it shall be in Breadth xvi Perches; (2) when it containeth xi
