president and directors of said company may, in

their discretion, adopt special rates of toll to the

stockholders thereof.

SEC. 8. And be it enacted, That the directors of the
|
 
|
|
said company shall have power to make and adopt
|

such by-laws, rules and regulations for the direction
|
 
|
|
and management of said company, as may in their
|
 
|
|
judgment be necessary for the purposes of their in-
|
 
|
|
corporation not inconsistent with the provisions of
|
 
|
|
this charter and the laws and constitution of this
|
 
|
|
State, and the president and directors of said com-
|
 
|
|
pany or a majority of them, shall constitute, appoint
|
 
|
|
and employ such officers, agents and servants for the
|
 
|
|
construction, preservation and repair of said road,
|
 
|
|
and for the receipt and collection of tolls and the
|
 
|
|
transportation of all other, business of said company,
|
 
|
|
as in their judgment may be necessary.
|
 
|
|
SEC. 9. And be it enacted, That if any person or per-
|
 
|
|
sons whatever, riding or driving anything whatever
|

or leading the same, shall therewith pass through

any private gate or bar or turn off said road with the

|
|
intention of avoiding the payment of toll for passing
|
 
|
|
through such gate, all and every person so offending

shall for every such offence forfeit and pay to the
|

said president and directors, a sum not exceeding

twenty dollars, to be sued for and recovered with

|
|
costs of suit before any justice of the peace, in like
|
 
|
|
manner as debts of similar amount may be sued for
|
 
|
|
and recovered, and if any toll-gatherer shall demand
|
 
|
|
and knowingly receive any greater toll than he is
|
 
|
|
authorized to receive by this act, he shall forfeit ten
|
 
|
|
dollars for every such offence for the use of the
|
 
|
|
county.

|
|
SEC. 10. And be it enacted, That if any person or
|
 
|
|
persons shall wilfully, by any means whatsoever, in-
|

jure, impair or destroy any part of said road, or any

stroy.

obstructions on said road, or if any person or per-

sons shall effect or attempt to effect an entrance
