On motion of Mr. McCosker,
Leave was granted to the Committee on Inspections to in-
troduce a bill to repeal section 15 of chapter 153 of the Act of
1872, entitled an Act to provide for the inspection of steam
boilers in the City of Baltimore.
On motion of Mr. Henkle,
Leave was granted to the Anne Arundel delegation to
report a bill to authorize the County Commissioners of Anne
Arundel county to establish a free bridge, by purchase or
otherwise, on or near the site where Sweetser's bridge now
stands.
On motion of Mr. McWilliams,
Leave was granted to the Select Committee on Pilots to in-
troduce a bill to repeal and amend the seventy-fourth Article
of the Code of Public Local Laws, entitled "Pilots."
On motion of Mr. Staylor,
Leave was granted to the Baltimore City delegation to in-
troduce a bill to repeat section 812, Article 4, Code of Pub-
lic Local Laws, providing for the extension of the limits
of direct taxation in the City of Baltimore, and to re-enact
the same with amendments.
Mr. Merryman submitted the following Joint Resolutions;
WHEREAS, The Governor of the State, in his Message to the
General Assembly, has suggested that the statue of the late
Chief Justice Taney, now located in the Capitol Grounds, be
formally handed over to the State by the Commissioners ap-
pointed under Act of General Assembly, 1867, chapter 51;
therefore,
Resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland, That a
Joint Special Committee of four on the part of the House,
and three of the Senate, be appointed to request said Com-
missioners to appear in the Hall of the House of Delegates
on the 17th day of March next, and that upon the occasion
8. Teackle Wallis, Esq., the Chairman of said Commission,
be invited to deliver an oration upon the life and public ser-
vices of the late Chief Justice.
Resolved, That said Special Committee be authorized to
make all necessary arrangements to carry out above resolu-
tion.
