When it comes to getting copies of tax forms,
instructions, helpful brochures and 200 other docu-
ments from the State Comptroller's Office, tradi-
tional business hours no longer matter.

Taxpayers can have all of those documents
faxed to them anytime, 24 hours a day, seven days
a week, through the comptroller's Forms-by-Fax
service.

By calling from a fax machine or from a
touch-tone phone, business and individual taxpay-
ers can follow voice prompts to identify what's
available by fax and then place an order of up to
five documents at a time.

The popularity of Forms-by-Fax is demon-
strated by the 300 incoming calls the service aver-
ages each day. Some of the more frequent re-
quests include Maryland's combined registration
application for businesses and personal income tax
forms for residents and nonresidents.

Since it was introduced in fiscal year 1996,
Forms-by-Fax has reduced telephone traffic on
taxpayer service lines, manual filling of forms orders
and postage costs.
