pany, qualified to act as surety or guaranty under the laws of the State
of Maryland, as surety, conditioned that he will well and faithfully per-
form the duties of clerk, treasurer and collector of taxes in all things
according to law and the ordinances of the city, and that he will well
and truly collect the taxes levied for the use of said city of Salisbury
and account for and pay over all moneys that may come into his hands,
as clerk, collector or treasurer in the manner and as required by law and
said ordinances. Said bond shall be paid for by the Mayor and Council.
The said bond shall be approved by the Council and spread upon its
minutes, and then delivered with the approval endorsed thereon to the
clerk of the Circuit Court for Wicomico county for record, a certified
copy of the same from either record to be in evidence in any court of
this State. If appointee shall fail or neglect to give satisfactory bond
within fifteen days, unless the time be extended by the Council, from the
date his appointment is confirmed, the Mayor shall appoint some other
person to said office, to be confirmed as aforesaid by the Council and to
give bond as aforesaid, and said bond to be approved and recorded as
aforesaid. In case of a vacancy for any cause in said office, the Mayor
shall appoint some person to fill the unexpired term, the new appointee
to be confirmed and to take the oath if originally appointed. The clerk
may take the probate to any account against said city and administer
oaths in any proceedings, where necessary, had before the Council, but
shall receive no fee therefor.

281. The said Clerk shall keep a full and accurate account of the
proceedings of the Council and shall record all proceedings in relation
to the opening, closing, widening, grading or paving of any street or alley
or part thereof including reports of commissioners on same, in a suitable
book or books and shall index the same.

He shall keep the assessment books of said City, with the names of
the owners of property arranged alphabetically, or as nearly so as may
be practical, and the property assessed so described as to be identified,
and the value of each piece of such property shown therein.

He shall keep full and fair account of all money received by him and
of all money paid out, showing from whom or what source it was received
and for what and to whom it was paid out. Special funds shall be kept
under separate heads.

He shall on each day deposit in some bank or banks of Salisbury, to
be designated by the Council, to the credit of the Mayor and Council of
Salisbury, all moneys received or collected by him for taxes or from any
other source (except as herein expressly otherwise directed) belonging to
the said corporation. Said money shall be paid out only on check signed
by the Clerk and countersigned by the President of the Council, and shall
be drawn only for such debts or purposes as may be designated by the
Council.

All books, papers, documents, records and supplies used by the said
Clerk shall be furnished by the Mayor and Council of Salisbury and!
