608 SAINT MARY'S COUNTY. [ART. 18.

Penalty for any
unlawful
scales, &c.

162. Any person or firm who shall use any scale,
beam, steel-yard, or any other instrument, in viola-
tion of the foregoing sections, shall, on conviction,
before any justice of the peace, having competent
jurisdiction, or before the circuit court, for each
offence be fined not less than five, nor more than
one hundred dollars, in the discretion of the justice
or the court, one-half to the informer and the residue
to the county.

In force from March 4, 1804.

ALMSHOUSE.

1887, c. 260 enacts the following:

1807, c. 260.
Mileage to

trustees.

SEC. 26. Each trustee of the almshouse in Saint
Mary's county, shall be entitled to mileage, at the
rate of five cents a mile on all distances not exceed-
ing twenty miles from his residence to the almshouse
computed by the shortest public road for every day
he shall necessarily attend to the duties of his office.

Levy.

The county commissioners of said county are hereby
authorized and required to levy a sum of money on
the taxable property of said county sufficient to pay
the same.
