slavery, and the relief of free Negroes, and others
unlawfully held in bondage. Baltimore, July 4th,
1791. By George Buchanan, M.D., member of the Amer-
ican philosophical society.
Baltimore: Printed by Philip Edwards. MDCCXCII.

4°.

Pages : 20.
Evans may have been in error when he listed this
under 1792. Although a number of copies of the 1793
edition (Evans 25237) have been located, not a
single copy of the Oration printed in 1792 has come
to light; nor has any reference to, or advertise-
ment for such a 1792 publication been discovered
in any contemporary newspaper. Evans locates this
1792 item PPL and NN. PPL has only one edition,
that of 1793. A clue to Evans' date has been found
in the NH copy. The Roman numerals which form the
date are not even; the third "I" in "MDCCXCIII" is
lower than the others. In trimming the NN copy,
the entire date was removed, with the exception of
the serifs which form the top of the Roman numerals;
and since the alignment was imperfect, no serif
was visible for the third "I". In examining this
copy, Evans may have considered that he had a
1792 edition; but the M copy agrees in every detail
with Evans 25237, and it is unlikely that it ever
carried a different publication date.
Evans 24152,.
No copy located.
