1834

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland, That
the said Richard Webb, Samuel Barrett, Moses Coker, and
Charles Williams, respectively be, and they are hereby au-
thorised, to devise, bequeath, and dispose of theft said
lands, tenements, and hereditaments, to their descendants,
and the said descendants are hereby authorised and empow-
ered to have, hold, occupy, possess, inherit, and enjoy the
said lands, tenements, and hereditaments, as fully as the
lawful descendants of other persons now do, any law, usage,
or custom, to the contrary notwithstanding

the turnpike near Westminster, in Frederick county, and

Emmittsburg to the Maryland and Pennsylvania State line,
along such route as they may find best suited for the pur-
pose, to intersect the turnpike road leading to Waynesburg,

Provided, that the said company may use the bridges and
bed of the road now leading from Westminster, to and
trough Taneytown, and Emmittsbug, to the State line afore-
said, or so much thereof, as they may find necessary, with
the consent in writing of a majority of the Levy court, at
one of their meetings for public business

Sec 2 And be it enacted, That the President and Man
agers of the said company, may agree with the owners of
land, for the purchase of land, required for said road, and
also for the purchase of stone, gravel, earth, and sand, for
said road, and in all cases where they are unable to agree
with the owners, or the owner should be a feme covert, non
compos mentis, or under age, the said President may apply
to a justice of the peace, for the county aforesaid, which
justice, shall thereupon issue his warrant, to the sheriff of
said county, commanding him to summon twenty disinter-
