1436 JOINT RESOLUTIONS.
In the meanwhile we recommend that the General Assembly
grant the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Company an extension of
its franchise for an appropriate period, but under conditions
which will not impair the right of the State to construct the
bridge as a State undertaking should it elect to do so.

Now, Therefore, be it Resolved, That the State Roads Com-
mission, supplemented by such other assistance, if any, as the
Governor may deem advisable, be, and it is hereby requested
and directed to investigate thoroughly the practicability of a
bridge or tunnel across the Chesapeake Bay; and be it further
Resolved*, That, if in the opinion of the said Commission
and person or persons, if any, associated with it in making
this investigation, that such a bridge or tunnel should be
deemed practicable from an engineering and traffic standpoint,
then the said Commission, and such person or persons asso-
ciated with it are hereby requested and directed to report as
to the proper method of financing such a structure and a
proper location for the site; and be it further
Resolved, That said Commission report its findings to the
Governor as promptly as possible, in order that he may make
the same public to the people forthwith, and take such further
action thereon as he may deem best for the interests of the
State.
