1910 JOINT RESOLUTIONS.
had great sentimental value to the individual donors, as an
expression of the appreciation of the people of France for the
aid and cooperation given by the people and Government of
the United States in enabling the people and Government of
France to overcome the great destruction and economic
damage inflicted on their beautiful country by World War
II; and
WHEREAS,, these numerous gifts were distributed by French
Merci Trains, one of which brought the gifts for the State of
Maryland; and
WHEREAS,, the people of Maryland appreciate this expression
of the friendship of the people and Government of France, as
demonstrated by sending the French Merci Trains to this
country; and
WHEREAS, the people of Maryland can never forget the great
services rendered by the gallant soldier and leader, Lafayette,
and by the people of France during our great conflict for the
Independence of our country, and the gratitude we have and
shall always have for our loyal friends, the people of France;
now therefore be it
Resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland, Th^at the
thanks and appreciation of the people of Maryland be and
they are hereby extended to the people of France for their
expression of friendship to the people of Maryland and of
the United States as demonstrated by sending the French
Merci Trains with their gifts to the people of our State and
country; and be it further
Resolved, That the Secretary of State be and he is hereby
directed to send a copy of this resolution, under the Great
Seal of the State of Maryland, to the Secretary of State of
the United States for transmission through the French Em-
bassy to the French Government so that its contents may be
made known to the people of France.
