An act for the relief of Cornelius Payne, of St. Mary's
county.

7, 1844.

Whereas, it has been represented to this general as-
sembly, that Cornelius Payne, formerly a citizen of Saint
Mary's county, having recently returned after a long ab-
sence in the south, and being pressed by his creditors, is
desirous of taking the benefit of the insolvent laws, but
not having residence in the state sixty days, cannot there-

fore take the benefit of said laws—Therefore,
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Cornelius Payne, now a resident of St Mary's county,
be and he is hereby authorized and empowered to take
the benefit of the insolvent laws of this state in the same
manner, and as fully as if he had resided within this state
sixty days previous to his application.

CHAPTER 267.

 

An act to incorporate the Franklin Fire Company of Balti-
more.

Passed March
7, 1844.

Whereas, it is represented to this general assembly,
that the members of the Franklin Fire Company of the
city of Baltimore have supplied themselves with a com-
plete and efficient apparatus for the extinguishment of
fires, and have adopted a constitution for the government
of said company, and in order to give effect to the laws,
rules and regulations which have been or may be estab-
lished by the said company, it has prayed that an act of

incorporation may pass in their favour—Therefore,
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That James Grieves, Robert Scott, William
Wickersham, James Young, James A. Bamberger, Na-
than H. Hall, James Shinnick and Peter Foy, members
of said company, and such other persons as now are or
may hereafter become members of the same, shall be, and
are hereby declared to be, one community, corporation and
body politic thereafter, by the name and style of the
Franklin Fire Company, and by that name they shall be
and are hereby made able and capable in law, to have,
purchase receive, possess, enjoy and retain to them and
