MUNICIPAL CHARTERS

COUNTY SHALL RECEIVE AND CONFINE ANY PERSON SO COMMITTED.

(e) Enforcement

JUDGES AND OTHER DULY CONSTITUTED AUTHORITIES OF THE
DISTRICT COURT FOR PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY SHALL ORDER THE
ARREST OF ANY PERSON FOUND BY THEM BREAKING THE PEACE OR
DISTURBING THE QUIET OR ORDER OF THE TOWN, OR VIOLATING
ANY OF THE ORDINANCES MADE BY THE MAYOR AND COMMON
COUNCIL FOR SECURING THE SAFETY OR PROPERTY OR THE LIVES
OF THE INHABITANTS OF THE TOWN, AND UPON COMPLAINT MADE
TO THEM OF THE VIOLATION OF ANY ORDINANCE OF THE TOWN
SHALL ISSUE PROCESS IN THE NAME OF THE MAYOR AND COMMON
COUNCIL OF UNIVERSITY PARK TO RECOVER THE FINE OR PENALTY
IMPOSED FOR THE VIOLATION OF SUCH ORDINANCE AGAINST THE
PARTY OFFENDING, AND MAY HEREIN DETERMINE THE MATTER AS
IN ANY CASE ARISING UNDER THE LAWS OF THE STATE, AND
SHALL RECEIVE THE SAME FEES THEREFOR. ALL APPLICABLE
TAXABLE COSTS SHALL BE PAID BY THE MAYOR AND COMMON
COUNCIL. ALL WRITS OR SUMMONS ISSUED SHALL BE SERVED BY
OFFICERS OF THE TOWN, PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY POLICE, OR
PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE.

(f) Referenda on ordinances

IF WITHIN 30 DAYS FROM THE DATE OF ITS PASSAGE A
PETITION PROTESTING AGAINST IT SIGNED BY ONE-HALF AS MANY
VOTERS AS VOTED AT THE LAST GENERAL ELECTION SHALL BE
FILED WITH THE TOWN CLERK, SUCH ORDINANCE SHALL BE
SUSPENDED, AND THE MAYOR AND COMMON COUNCIL SHALL
RECONSIDER IT, AND IF IT BE NOT REPEALED THE MAYOR AND
COMMON COUNCIL SHALL SUBMIT IT TO A VOTE OF THE DULY
QUALIFIED VOTERS OF SAID TOWN AT THE NEXT ELECTION,
PROVIDED, HOWEVER, THAT IF THE NEXT ELECTION SHALL
OCCUR MORE THAN NINETY DAYS THEREAFTER, THE MAYOR AND
COMMON COUNCIL SHALL CALL A SPECIAL ELECTION FOR THE
PURPOSE OF DECIDING WHETHER SUCH PROPOSED ORDINANCE SHALL
OR SHALL NOT BECOME A LAW, AND THE SAME SHALL BECOME
OPERATIVE OR REPEALED BY A MAJORITY OF THE VOTES CAST AT
THIS ELECTION.

Section 81—26. Unassigned.

Section 2. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the date of the
adoption of the resolution is September 16, 1974, and the
amendments hereby proposed by this enactment shall be and
become effective on November 6, 1974, unless a proper
petition for referendum herein shall be filed as
permitted by law. A complete and exact copy of the
Resolution will be posted at the University Park
Elementary School until October 28, 1974, and a copy of
the title of this Resolution shall be published in a
newspaper of general circulation in the Town not less
than 4 times at weekly intervals before October 28, 1974.
