Garrett County Sheriff - Salary Increase

FOR the purpose of altering the salary of the Garrett
County Sheriff; and providing for the salary
increase to take effect beginning the next term of
office.

BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,

Article - Courts and Judicial Proceedings

Section 2-309 (m) (1)

Annotated Code of Maryland

(1974 Volume and 1975 Supplement)

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That Section 2-309 (m)(1) of Article - Courts
and Judicial Proceedings, of the Annotated Code of
Maryland (1974 Volume and 1975 Supplement) be and it is
hereby repealed and reenacted, with amendments, to read
as follows:

(m)         (1)         The Sheriff of Garrett County shall

receive a salary of at least [$7,000] $11,500 and a sum
set by the County Commissioners, for expenses. He shall
employ not more than eight deputies, at salaries of at
least $5,200 each, one of whom shall act as warden of the
jail, and a matron for the jail who shall also perform
clerical duties at the salary set by the Sheriff. He may
employ additional special deputies whose compensation
shall be approved by the County Commissioners.

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That the
provisions of this Act shall not be construed to extend
or apply to the salary of the Garrett County Sheriff in
office on the effective date of this Act, but the
provisions of this Act concerning the salary of the
Garrett County Sheriff shall take effect at the beginning
of the next following term of office.

SECTION 3. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act
shall take effect July 1, 1976.
