(House Bill 673)

AN ACT concerning

Election Code - Precinct Check

FOR the purpose of requiring a board of election to make
a check of its registration list if it determines
that any part of a precinct needs such a check;
requiring board clerks to visit the residence of
certain registered voters in accordance with the
directions of the board; requiring the clerks to
note the removal of any voter who has moved within
the precinct; making style changes; and generally
relating to the procedure of checking the
registration of voters in a precinct or part of a
precinct.

BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,

Article 33 — Election Code

Section 3-24(a) and (b)

Annotated Code of Maryland

(1971 Replacement Volume and 1975 Supplement)

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY TEE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That Sections 3-24 (a) and (b) of Article 33 -
Election Code, of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1971
Replacement Volume and 1975 Supplement) be and they are
hereby repealed and reenacted, with amendments, to read
as follows:

Article 33 — Election Code

3-24.

(a)        Whenever the board        [shall determine]
DETERMINES that any precinct OR PORTION OF A PRECINCT is
in need of a detailed check for the purpose of correcting
the registration lists [thereof,] OF THE PRECINCT, it
shall deliver to one or more of its clerks a copy of the
registration list of all voters registered [from the] IN
THE PRECINCT OR PORTION OF THE precinct. The board
[shall], at the same time SHALL, furnish to each of
[such] THE clerks a sufficient number of change of
residence cards on which registrants who have changed
their residence may apply to the board for a transfer of
registration, and a sufficient number of cards to be
handed to nonregistered voters indicating when and where
to register.

(b)        [It shall be the duty of such clerk or clerks
to] THE CLERK OR CLERKS SHALL visit the place of
residence of every registered voter [of the assigned
precinct,] ON THE LIST and after diligent inquiry, [to]
SHALL check the names on [such] THE registration lists,
