BLAIR LEE III, Acting Governor
2883
Theater of Maryland.
BY adding to
Article 41 - Governor - Executive and Administrative
Departments
Section 77D
Annotated Code of Maryland
(1971 Replacement Volume and 1977 Supplement)
Preamble
Since 1962, Center Stage in Baltimore, Maryland, has
served the State as a nonprofit, professional, regional
theater. Center Stage offers many and varied programs to
persons interested in attending and participating in the
theater arts. Examples of current programs include
workshops in acting and directing, a young people's theater
which performs at hospitals and schools throughout the
State, internships for high school and college students, and
an excellent selection of stage productions offered to
enthusiastic audiences.
During the summer months, professional theater
continues in Maryland at the Olney Theatre in Montgomery
County. The University Players, a nonprofit corporation,
present five productions each year at the Olney Theatre
during a 15—week season running from May to September.
Begun in 1953, the Olney Theatre celebrated its silver
anniversary during the summer of 1977 — its most successful
season ever!
In view of this record of service to the State, it is
most appropriate that the General Assembly designate Center
Stage as the State Theater of Maryland and the Olney Theatre
as the State Summer Theater of Maryland; now, therefore,
SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That section(s) of the Annotated Code of Maryland
be repealed, amended, or enacted to read as follows:
Article 41 - Governor - Executive and Administrative
Departments
77D.
(A) CENTER STAGE IN BALTIMORE, MARYLAND, IS DECLARED
TO BE THE STATE THEATER OF MARYLAND.
(E) OLNEY THEATRE IN MONTGOMERY COUNTY, MARYLAND, IS
DECLARED TO BE THE STATE SUMMER THEATER OF MARYLAND.
SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act
shall take effect July 1, 1978.
Approved May 29, 1978.
