FOR the purpose of limiting access to information maintained
in the Central Registry to agencies authorized to take
immediate action to protect children; and correcting an
obsolete agency designation.
BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,
Article 27 - Crimes and Punishments
Section 35A(k)
Annotated Code of Maryland

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That section(s) of the Annotated Code of Maryland
be repealed, amended, or enacted to read as follows:
Article 27 - Crimes and Punishments
35A.
(k) The State [Department of Social Services] SOCIAL
SERVICES ADMINISTRATION shall and each local department of
social services may maintain a central registry of cases
reported under this section, which data shall be furnished
by the respective local departments of social services
throughout the State of Maryland [and]. [this] THIS data
shall be at the disposal of PROTECTIVE SERVICES STAFF OF THE
SOCIAL SERVICES ADMINISTRATION, PROTECTIVE SERVICES STAFF OF
local departments of social services, WHO ARE INVESTIGATING
A REPORT OF SUSPECTED CHILD ABUSE, [social agencies, public
health agencies, law enforcement agencies, as well as
licensed health practitioners and health and education
institutions licensed or regulated by the State of
Maryland.] AND LAW ENFORCEMENT PERSONNEL WHO ARE
INVESTIGATING A REPORT OF SUSPECTED CHILD ABUSE.
SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act
shall take effect July 1, 1981.
