AN ACT concerning

Maryland Higher Education Loan Corporation - Displaced
Homemakers Program

FOR the purpose of creating a program to aid certain displaced
homemakers who attend certain institutions of postsecondary
education in the State; defining certain terms; providing
for the administration of the program; determining certain
conditions for receiving loans under the program; providing
certain conditions for repayment of loans received under the
program; providing for the establishment of a rate of
interest and a payback period; providing for procedures in
the event of default on a loan under the program; and
generally relating to loans made by the Maryland Higher
Education Loan Corporation.

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:

18-1015.

(A) (1) IN THIS SECTION THE FOLLOWING WORDS HAVE THE
MEANINGS INDICATED.

(2) "DISPLACED HOMEMAKER" MEANS AN INDIVIDUAL WHO:

(I) HAS WORKED FOR THE FAMILY IN THE FAMILY
HOME ;

(II) IS NOT GAINFULLY EMPLOYED OR IS EMPLOYED
AND RECEIVES AN ANNUAL INCOME THAT FALLS BELOW THE POVERTY LEVEL
ESTABLISHED BY THE UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT;
