woman named Nancy is the same person mentioned in the said Manumission; I do
therefore grant her said application and hereby certify that from her age as expressed
in the said manumission she will be forty two years of age the second day of June
next five feet three and three quarter inches high or thereabouts of nearly a black
complexion was born and raised in Caroline County and has a very large scar of
a burn on her left arm and no other notable marks or scars that I have observed
(seal)   In Testimony whereof I hereto subscribe my name and affix the public
           seal of my office this 31st day of May Anno Domini 1832

State of Maryland Caroline County to wit; Whereas application hath been made
to me by a negro man named John Henry Friend for a certificate of his freedom
agreeably to the act of assembly in such case made and provided by which said act free negroes
and mulattoes are permitted to travil out of this state upon the obtention of a certificate
of being free born and whereas also upon the oath of Abel Gowty of Caroline County
that the said negro man named John Henry Friend for whom this certificate is made
was free born I do therefore grant his said application and hereby certify that from his
own account he will be twenty three years of age the fifteenth day of August next
five feet six inches high or thereabouts of a black complexion was born and raised in
Caroline County and has a tolerable large scar on the upper part of his right arm and
no other noble marks or scars that I have observed
(seal)   In Testimony whereof I hereto subscribe my name and affix the public seal
           of my office this 9th day of June Anno Domini 1832

man named Peter Hawkins for a certificate agreeably to an act of the General assembly
of Maryland passed at November session Eighteen hundred and five by which said act
free negroes and mulattoes are permitted to travel out of this state upon the ^their^ obtention
of a certificate of being free born:  And whereas also upon the affirmation of Thomas
Hopkins Junr of the County aforesaid that the said negro man named Peter Hawkins
for whom this certificate is made was free born.  I do therefore grant his said application
and hereby certify that he is five feet five and an half inches high or thereabouts
