John N. Watkins (c. 1812-1884)

Biography:

Born John Nicholas Watkins c. 1812. Married Matilda Green, January 21, 1836, in Anne Arundel County; seven children. Died January 7, 1884, in Baltimore City. Buried Greenmount Cemetery.

Studied law with Alexander Randall. Chief Clerk, House of Delegates, December 1839 session through December 1842 session and part of the January 1852 session. Maryland Secretary of State, March 1844, 1849-51. Attended Maryland Constitutional Convention of 1850 as secretary of state. Chief clerk to Philip Francis Thomas when he became Comptroller in 1852. Deputy port collector in Baltimore, appointed 1853. Baltimore City Justice of the Peace, appointed February 1872.
