Report to General Assembly due July 1, 2028 (Chapter 399, Acts of 2026).

In October 2026, the Task Force to Study Deed Fraud was authorized by the General Assembly (Chapter 399, Acts of 2026).

The Task Force is to study incidents of deed fraud in Maryland, including the number of deed fraud complaints and resolved deed fraud cases; the amount of restitution awarded; and geographic and demographic trends. It will examine how deed fraud is combatted in other states; identify patterns used by its perpetrators, as well as patterns in demographics of its victims. Further, the Task Force is to develop recommendations for deed fraud detection tools; conduct an analysis on victims of deed fraud that identifies the economic impact on victims; and make recommendations for combatting deed fraud in the State, including strategies for intergovernmental coordination to more effectively detect and prevent it.

Seven members constitute the Task Force. Of these, three serve ex officio. The Governor names the Chair(Chapter 399, Acts of 2026).

Authorization for the Task Force ends September 30, 2028.
