In Council 14th April 1778.
Sir.
We have sent you, by Martin Norris, 1500 Dollars, towards
the Purchase of Provisions. We shall be glad to receive Infor-
mation from you that more is wanted: this, we expect, may
last you some Time. It will not do, by any Means, to barrel

Beef at this Time of the year. If Gentlemen who have Cattle
fit for Slaughter will not part from them when the Army so
much needs them, we request you'll make Use of the Power
given you by the Law, and get the Cattle, at all Events. If
you receive Money for the Congress, and should have Occa-
sion to expend it in the Purchase of Provisions, do so, but we
would not have you keep it in Hand in Expectation of its
being wanted for that Purpose because we hope to have Money
in Hand to supply you and we know it is desirable to draw
what we can into the Continental Treasury.

Wednesday 15 April 1778.
Present as on yesterday.
Ordered That the western shore Treasurer Pay to John
Smith Ten Pounds, sixteen Shillings due to him and also the
further Sum of one hundred and twenty six Pounds ten Shil-
lings for the use of James Sterett per Accounts passed by the
Committee of Claims & Auditor General.
That the said Treasurer Pay to Vachel Worthington seven
Pounds ten shillings to be delivered over to Charles Worth-
ington for Waggon hire per Account passed by the Auditor
General.
That the said Treasurer Pay to Doct Richard Tootel seventy
four Pounds, eleven shillings due to him per Account passed
by the A General.
Commissions issued to Leonard Loutz appointed second
Lieut in Captain Whites Company Edward Salmon first Lieut
of Capt. Haff's Compy in the Frederick Town Battalion of
Militia also to Michael Bierly second Lieut of Capt Jacob
Crist's Comy Lawrence Creager Ensign and Jacob Crist Cap-
tain of a Company in Colo James Johnson's Battalion of Militia
in Frederick County
