On motion by Mr. Clarke,
The Senate took a recess until 5 o'clock.

AFTERNOON SESSION.

MONDAY, April 4, 1870, 5 o'clock, P.M.
The Senate met pursuant to adjournment.
Present at roll call, the following Senators:

Messrs. President, Biggs, Browne, Earle, Fields, Hyland,
Jump, Maddox, Malone, Snyder, States, Stephenson, Tim-
mons, Welch, Wilson—14.

Mr. Earle, from the Committee on Finance, to whom was
referred House bill entitled an Act to appropriate a sum of
money to pay the claims of Benjamin F. May, W. H. Pitcher
and Henry B. Jones, out of money paid into the Treasury from
inspections of grain in Baltimore city in the years 1865,
1866 and 1867, reported it unfavorably,

And the report was adopted.
On motion by Mr. Clarke, it was

Ordered by the Senate, that the per diem of James T.
Blakiston, Sergeant-at-Arms to the Senate, be ten dollars a
day for the present session in lieu of his mileage, traveling
expenses, and all other fees of office, in summoning witnesses
before the Senate investigating Committee.

Mr. Jump submitted the following order :

Ordered, That the Engrossing Clerk of the Senate be al-
lowed the same per diem as the Engrossing Clerk of the
House of Delegates.

On the question being put,

It was determined in the affirmative by yeas and nays, as
follows:
