fines, penalties and forfeitures imposed by any law
of the State, and which are made recoverable be-
fore a Justice of the Peace in which a right of
appeal may not be given by the law imposing the
|
|
|
same; Provided, however, if the appellant should
not appear on or before the second day of the term
of the Court to which such appeal is taken, the
judgment shall be affirmed as of course.
Sec. 2. And be it enacted, That the following
Section be added to said Article five of the Code
of Public General Laws, to follow Section fifty-
eight.

Proviso.
|
|
59. Where any judgment of a Justice of the
Peace imposing any fine or penalty for the viola-
tion of any law or ordinance, shall be affirmed
upon appeal, the Court to which such appeal is
taken shall have the power to commit the defend-
ant or appellant in, case of non-payment of such
fine or penalty and costs; provided, that no per-
son shall be imprisoned under this Section for a
longer period than thirty days for any one offence.

CHAPTER 57.

AN ACT to repeal Section fifty of Article nine of
the Code of Public Local Laws, entitled Charles
County, sub-title, " Justices of the Peace and
Constables," and re-enact the following in lieu
thereof;
|
|
|
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That Section fifty of Article nine of
the Code of Public Local Laws, entitled Charles
County, relating to Justices of the Peace and Con-
stables, be and the same is hereby repealed, and
re-enacted as follows:

Sec. 50. There shall be the following number of
Justices of the Peace and Constables in Charles
County, to wit ; For Election District, number
one, one Justice of the Peace and two Constables;
for Election District, number two, two Justices of
