missioners are hereby authorized to condemn the

same in the manner specified in the foregoing Sec-
tion, the oath to each juror being that he will
justly and impartially value the damages which
the owner will sustain by the enlarging of the
particular street or avenue, as the case may be.

Sec. 2. And be it enacted, That this Act shall
take effect from the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 69.
|
|
|
AN ACT to amend the Charter of Leitersburg,
Maryland.
|
|
Violation of
law.
|
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That the Burgess or any Justice of
the Peace, when imposing a fine, penalty or for-
feiture for the violation of any by-law or ordinance
of said Corporation, shall have power to commit
the person convicted to the public jail, or any ap-
propriate place of confinement within the Cor-
poration which the Burgess and Commissioners
may provide; if said offender shall fail or refuse
to pay the fine, penalty, or forfeiture and costs,
there to remain until the same is paid or until dis-
charged, as hereinafter provided; and the Sheriff
of the County shall receive and safe keep such
person according to the tenor of the commitment,
and shall be entitled to his usual fees therefor,
and the Burgess or Justice who may have directed
such commitment may order any person so com-

mitted to be discharged; provided, such commit-
ment shall not inure for more than thirty days,
and the Corporation shall be liable to all jail fees
of persons so committed.

Sec. 2. And be it enacted, That the Burgess and
Commissioners shall have power to appoint a Con-
stable for said town, with such compensation as
may be allowed by general law, who shall give
bond in a sufficient amount to indemnify said
