election, and the said Councilmen shall, before
they enter upon the duties of their office, make
oath before the Mayor that they will diligently
and faithfully, to the best of their judgment, per-
form the duties of said Councilmen of said town,

Oath.

without favor, partiality or prejudice; the Mayor
shall take the oath prescribed by the Constitution,
as directed by Section six of Article sixty-eight of
the Code.

Once in three
months.
|
Sec. 10. And be it enacted, That they shall
meet at the Council chamber, or some other con-
venient place, at least once in every three months,
or oftener if they shall think necessary, and the
Mayor shall preside at all meetings of the Coun-
cil, and have the same power of voting and taking
part in all acts and deliberations of the Council as
any member thereof.

Clerk.
|
Sec. 11. And be it enacted, That the Mayor and
Councilmen shall appoint and qualify a clerk, who
shall keep minutes of their proceedings, which
shall be subject to the inspection of all persons in-

terested therein; also a Treasurer, who shall give
bond and security and pay monies only on the
order of the Mayor and Councilmen.

Bailiff and
Police.
|
Sec. 12. And be it enacted, That they shall an-
nually, in the month of May, appoint a bailiff and
such police force as they may deem necessary for
said town, who, before entering upon the duties of
their office, shall make oath before the mayor and
councilmen that they will faithfully and impar-
tially perform the duties required of them as offi-
cers, according to the best of their skill and judg-
ment, without favor, affection or prejudice, and
the [the] bailiff shall give bond and security in
such sum as the mayor and councilmen may desig-
nate.

Compensation
|
Sec. 13. And be it enacted, That they may allow
their clerk, treasurer, bailiff and police such rea-
sonable compensation for their services as they may
think proper, and the mayor shall receive two dol-
lars, and each councilman one and one-half dollars
per day for each day they may be in session or at-
tending to their public duties.

Pass ordi-
nances.
|
Sec. 14. And be it enacted, That the mayor and
councilmen may pass such ordinances, not contrary
to law, as they may deem beneficial to the town .
