Whereupon, it appearing that Lefevre Jarrett, James E.
Carr, and Wm. H. B. Fusselbaugh, had received a majority
of all the votes cast.

The Speaker declared Lefevre Jarrett, James E. Carr, and
Wm. H. B. Fusselbaugh duly elected Police Commissioners
for the City of Baltimore, for four years from the expiration

of the term of office of the present Board.

The hour having arrived for taking up the order of the day.
the House proceeded to the consideration of the order sub-
mitted by Mr. Hardcastle of Talbot, on yesterday., as found
on page 102 of the Journal.

The question recurring upon the adoption of the order,
Mr. Gatch submitted the following amendment:

Insert after the word "State," in 2d line, the words "ex-

cept Baltimore county."

Which was rejected.

Mr. Brattau submitted the following amendment:

Insert after the word "printing," and before the word

"for," the following:

The amounts paid for publishing Registers' Notices, and
lists of Registered voters,

Which was adopted.

Mr. Baldwin, of Anne Arundel, submitted the following

amendment:

Insert after the word "printing," and before the word
"for," and what amount has been paid to each member of
the Orphanf Court, and of the County Commissioners for
mileage and per diem.

Which was adopted.

The question then recurring upon the order as amended,

It was adopted.

Mr. Shipley presented a petition from Thomas Webb, and
78 other citizens, for the enactment of a ten hour law, for
Cotton Factories in the State of Maryland.

Also,

The petition of Joseph Curtis, and one hundred others, for
the passage of a ten hour law for the Cotton Factories in Mary-
land.

Which were severally read, and referred to the Committee
on Manufactures.
