CHAPTER 102.

CHAP. 103.

An act for the better allowance and payment of witnesses in

Allegany county.

Passed Mar. 3,1834

SECTION 1 . Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Ma-
ryland, That each and every witness that may be summon-
ed to attend the respective courts that may hereafter be
held in and for Allegany county, who may reside more
than five miles from the place of holding the said court,
shall in addition to the per diem allowed him by law, be
entitled to receive as an allowance of four cents for every
mile, excluding the first five miles that his place of resi-
dence shall be distant from the place of holding the county
court of Allegany county, to be allowed him, in going to
the court: Provided, that the said itinerant charges shall
be allowed to each of said witnesses only for once coming
to the said court, at any one term, to be taxed and allow-
ed and paid as the per diem is now taxed, allowed and paid
by law.

CHAPTER 103.

An act for the benefit of the creditors of Michael Lane, late
of Allegany county, deceased.

WHEREAS, it appears by the petition of sundry persons,
creditors of Michael Lane, late of Allegany county, deceas-
ed, that after the death of said deceased, and before letters
of administration issued, a considerable quantity- of the
personal property was secreted by his widow, Frances Lane,
so that the same never came into the hands of the admin-
istrator, and that some time since the widow also died,
leaving an estate considerably more than sufficient to dis-
charge all the claims against the same; and that the said
Lane and wife were aliens; and died intestate, leaving no
heirs, and that the surplus so remaining would accrue by
law to the benefit of the public, and that said surplus would
be nearly sufficient to pay the balance to the said creditors
of her husband: Therefore,
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That the Orphans' court of Allegany county shall, pn being
