Somerset County Ssc Maryland ( 53 ) In the Name of God Amen This fourth day of September in the year of our Lord God one thousand Six hundred and ninety I William Brereton of the County and Province aforesaid Gent, being Sick in body, but of good and perfect memory, thanks be to Almighty God, and calling to remembrance the uncertain Estate of this transitory life, and that all flesh must yield to death, when it shall please God to call, do make, constitute, Ordain and declare, this my last will and testament in manner and forme following, Revoking and annulling by these presents all and every Testament and will heretofore by me made, and declared, either by words or writings, and this to be taken Only for my last will and Testament and none other, And first being penitent and sory for my sinns past humbly desireing forgiveness for the same, I give and comitt my soule unto Almighty God my Saviour & Redeamr in whome and by the merrits of Jesus Christ, I trust and believe assuredly to be saved, and to have full remission and forgiveness of all my Sinns, and that my soul with my body at the generall day of resurection shall rise again with joy &c. And my body to be buried in Such place where it shall please my Execcutrix hereafter named to appoint, and for the setling of my temporal Estate, and such goods Chattels and debts as it hath pleased God to bestow upon me. I do order and give the same in manner and forme following that is to say ) ffirst I will that all those debts and duties as I owe in right or conscience to any person whatsoever shall be truly contented and paid, within a Convenient time after my decease by my Execcutrix hereafter named. Item. my Will is that my loving Wife Sarah Brereton doe peaceably & quietly have hold and enjoy the plantation whereon I now live called Breretons chance, for and dureing her naturall life, togeather with all houseings, & edifices of buildings & with all conveniences thereunto belonging. And after my said Wifes decease, Then I give & bequeath the said Land to my Sonn William Brereton and to the Heirs of his body lawfully begotten forever. Item I give and bequeath to my Second Sonn John: Brereton a Tract of Land called miles end conteining two hundred and fifty acres to have and to hold the same to him my said sonn John and to the Heirs of his body lawfully begotton for ever, and to be at age at the years of eighteen. Item. I give and bequeath to my third and fourth sons Thomas:Brereton and Henry Brereton a tract of land called the midle neck containing thre hundred Acres to be equally ~ devided between them my sd Sonns and to the Heirs of their bodies lawfully begotton for ever ~ And to be of age at the years of eighteen as aforesd. As for my personal Estate my desire is yt the same shall remain in my sd Wives hands and to be disposed of at her own will & pleasure and I doe constitute & ordain my said loving Wife Sarah Brereton my Sole and only Execcutrix of this my last will and Testament and do request my welbeloved friend ffrancis: Jenkins Gent to Oversee and looke over my papers books and to be an assistant to my said Wife after my decease In Witness whereof I have hereunto Sett my hand and Seal the day and year above written.
