William Harvey Plt                Somerset County Ss Thomas Shiles of this County was attached to answer

               Contra }         unto William Harvy in a plea of Trespas on the Case &ca. - - - - - - -

Thomas Shiles Defendt             And whereupon the Said William by Samuel Alexander his Attorney [ ]

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~               whereas he the Said William the 10th day of May in the year of or Lord 1693

had a Cow & Calf that used at the Plantation of the sd Thomas where sd Cow & Calf the sd Wm as his own [ ]

to drive away home to his own Plantation Now the sd Wm in fact Saith That he the said Thomas him the Said

Wm: did lett & hinder the Said Cow & Calf to drive away & doth still detain the sd Cow & Calf whereupon

the Said Wm Saith that he is Damnified to the value of 1200 lb of tobacco & hereof he brings this Sute.

              And the defendt pr Saml Worthington his Attorney Saith that he doth avow the keeping of ye Cow

              in Declaration mentioned by reason he did never deliver to any prson nor any one for him and puts himself

              on the Court Worthington

And the plt by Samuel Alexander his Attorney Saith that the sd Cow is the property of the sd Wm and is of his [ ]

marke and for that the decl cannot avow the keeping of the sd Cow & of this he desires may be enqured of

by the Country.    Sam. Alexander

              And the defendt for answer saith that the Cow now in dispute is the only propper goods of the dft & likewise

              puts himself upon the Country Worthington //

The issue being as aforesd [bound ?] This Crt Comands the Sherif of sd County to bring here twelve good & lawfull

men of his Balywick that the matter in hand might be the better understood a List or pannel whereof are

returned as followeth (viz) Wm: Turvile. John:Henderson. John: Parsons. Robert Crouch. Robert Smith. Jno.

Richins. Matt Talbott. Benjamine Deards. Roger Odowey. Edward Wright John Webb. Wm: Scott 12) who

being leagally Sumond returned & Sworn upon the holy Evangelists having heard the foresd Decl.n plea

as also the Evidences &ca are Sent forth in Order to determine the matter - - - - And this day (viz) the day afd

the Jurors of the aforesd Jury makes return to the Barr in Court the Plt & Deft being Calld likewise ye Jurors

prticularly being all agreed of their verdict which is delivered & read in Court as followeth (viz) Wee of the

Jury find for the Defendant. Wm Turvis //                  Which verdict this Court Orders to be entered and

Confirms the Same with Cost of Sute alias Executio.


              

Hope: Taylor Plt.          Somerset County Ss William Henderson late of Somerset County Planter was Sumoned

               Contra }  to answer unto Hope Taylor of the Same County of a plea that he render unto him

Wm: Henderson Dft    the just Sum of four hundred pounds of tobacco in Caske which from him he unjustly

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~      detaineth &ca.

And whereupon the Sd Hope by Sam: Worthington his Attorney Saith that Whereas the Said Wm Henderson the 8th

day of June in the year of or Lord 1689 at Monokin, within the Jurisdiction of this Court by his Certain [ ]

which the sd Hope with the Seal of the sd Wm Henderon Signed bringeth here into Court the date whereof

the day & year aforesd wherein he did acknowledge him Self to owe & Stand indebted unto him the sd Hope Taylor

in the just Sum of four hundred pounds of tobacco in Caske to be paid to the Said Hope Taylor his Heirs or [Assigns]
