George Layfield Esqr plt Somerset Ss Benjm Deards Dfendt } Benjamine Deards of Somerset County ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Sawyer was attached to answer unto George Layfield Esqr & Eliz.his Wife &ca. of an accon of the Case — And whereupon the sd George & Eliz. by Sam Worthington their Attorney Complains that whereas the sd Benjamine Deards in the year of our Lord 1692 at Pocomoke within the Jurisdiction of this Court with force & Armes &ca. did forceably enter upon Tract of Land Called litle Convenience belonging unto the afd George Layfield & Eliz. his Wife as pr Conveyance from Thomas Miller & Sarah his Wife doth and may appear & did fell Cutt down Waste & destroy & Carry away of the afd Land Called litle Convenience Cypresse Timber to the value of Eight Thousand pounds of Tobacco without the Consent knowledge & privity of them or either of them & the sd George & Elizabeth for [which they] in fact Saith they are damnified to the value of Sixteen thousand pounds of tobacco & thereof they bring this Sute &ca. Jno Doe Worthington pr Quer Pledgs &ca. Rich Roe} The Decl being read ye foresd Alinacon being produced it was the judgmt of the Justices that the plts accot did not lye within ye Jurisdiction of this Court & therefore doe Ordr a Non Sute wth Cost &ca.
George Layfield &ca. plts Somerset Ss // Edward Jones Dft } Edward Jones of Somerset County ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Attorney at Law was attached to answer unto George Layfield Esqr & Eliz. his Extors of the last will & Testamt of Coll Wm Stevens Deceased of a plea of debt &ca. – And whereupon ye Said George & Elizabeth by Samuel Worthington his Attorney Complaineth & Saith that whereas the sd Edward on ye 28th day of August in ye year of our Lord 1686 at Pocomoke with the Jurisdiction of this Court by a Certain Bill Obligatory under the hand & Seal of him the said Edward became indebted unto him the afd William Stevens in the just Sum of eleaven hundred and Eighty pounds of good Sound Mertable leafe tobacco in Caske Convenient in Somerset County the date whereof is the day & year afd , And the sd Edward being indebted in manner & form afd the sd Sum of tobacco to the William faithfully paid in his lifetime nor to the sd Eliz.in the time of her being Extrix nor the Sd George Since the intermarrying with the sd Eliz though often there unto required ,for which the sd George & Eizabeth Saith they are
