Adm^rs to pay of Cause to be paid unto Wm Stevens of Rehobeth in Somerset

County Mer^cht his Heirs Extors Adm^rs or Assigns the full & just Sum of eleven

hundred & Eighty pounds of good Sound Merchantable leaf tobacco in Caske

Convenient at Some place appoint in Trade in Somerset County at or upon y^e

tenth day of November ensueing the date hereof as Witness my hand and

Coleman in a plea of debt &ca - - - And whereupon the sd Ellis by Robert

Pirrie his Attorney Complaineth y^t whereas the sd Charles the 19^th day of April

in the year of our Lord 1689 at Snow hill within the Jurisdiction of this Court

by a Certain Bill or writing which the sd Ellis under the hand & Seal of y^e

Said Charles bringeth here into Court the date whereof is the day & year afd

did acknowledge himself to be bound unto the Said Ellis in y^e full & just Sum

of one thousand one hundred twenty & four pounds of good Barrow Porke to be

paid to the Said Ellis at Snow hill Towne by y^e last day of October after y^e date

of the sd Bill or writing Nevertheless the sd Charles the sd Sum of 1124 pounds

of Porke as afd according to the tenour of the sd Bill or Writeing to the said

he hath not paid but hath hitherto refused & doth Still refuse to pay although

often demanded to the damage of the Said Ellis of 2248 pounds of Porke

& thereupon he brings this Sute &ca.             Jn^o Doe

And the Dfend^t by Sam^l Alexander his Attorney comes & pleads None age and

of this he puts himself upon y^e Court             Sam. Alexander

   And the plt by Robert Pirrie Saith that the Law Sayeth if it be for meat

    drink or apparel it is no plea in Barr & of this he putteth himself upon

    the Court also Pirrie p^r plt.
