Montgomery County Sentinel, a newspaper of general circulation in the
City of Rockville, not less than four times at weekly intervals prior to
May 16, 1971.

Charter Amendment No. 25

Resolution of the Mayor and Council of Rockville adopted pur-
suant to the authority" of Article XI-E of the Constitution of Mary-
land, Section 13 of Article 23A of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1966 Replacement Volume), title "Corporations—Municipal," sub-
title "Home Rule," and Sections 48-15A to 48-15G, inclusive, of the
Charter of the Mayor and Council of Rockville, as amended, to amend
the Charter of The Mayor and Council of Rockville, as set forth in
Sections 48-1 to 48-95, inclusive, of the Code of Public Local Laws
of Montgomery County (1965 Edition, as amended, being Article 16
of the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland) to repeal and re-enact
with amendments, Section 48-6(a) thereof to provide that the term
of members of the Board of Supervisors of Elections be extended in
length from two (2) to four (4) years, and to provide that such
terms begin on the first Monday in June rather than the first Monday
in March.

Section 1. BE IT RESOLVED by The Mayor and Council of Rock-
ville that the Charter of said municipal corporation as set forth in Sections
48-1 to 48-95, inclusive, of the Code of Public Local Laws of Montgomery
County (1965 Edition, as amended, being Article 16 of the Code of Public
Local Laws of Maryland) be and the same is hereby repealed and re-
enacted, with amendments, under Section 48-6 (a) to read as follows:

"Section 48-6.

(a) There shall be a board of supervisors of elections, consisting of
three members, who shall be appointed by the Council on the date this
section becomes effective [and on or before the first Monday in March in
every odd numbered year thereafter]. The terms of members of the board
[, other than the first board appointed as herein provided,] shall begin
on the first Monday in [March] June [in the year which they are ap-
pointed] and shall run for [two] four years and until their successors
are appointed and qualified.
Members of the board shall be qualified voters
of the city and shall not hold or be candidates for any elective office of
the city during their terms of office. Members of the board shall, before
entering upon the discharge of their duties, make oath in due form of law
that they, severally, will fairly, faithfully and honestly perform their
duties as members of the board. The board shall appoint one of its members
as chairman. Vacancies on the board shall be filled by the Mayor with the
approval of the Council for the remainder of the unexpired term. The com-
pensation of the members of the board shall be as determined by the
council."

Section 2. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the terms of two of
the members of the board serving at the time this amendment becomes
effective shall be extended by the council for one and two years, respec-
tively, to accomplish a staggering of terms.
