Although former Article 43, § 874(4) defined
"health service area" for purposes of former
Article 43, §§ 871 through 877 -- i.e., § 19-110
of this subtitle — it is revised here, for
purposes of all of Part I of this subtitle, to
avoid repetition.

The reference to the "United States Secretary of
Health and Human Services" is substituted for the
reference to the "Secretary of Health, Education
and Welfare"; to conform to current terminology.

Defined term: "Federal Act" § 19-101

(G) HEALTH SYSTEMS AGENCY.

"HEALTH SYSTEMS AGENCY" MEANS A BODY THAT THE UNITED
STATES SECRETARY OF HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES, AFTER
CONSULTATION WITH THE GOVERNOR,. DESIGNATES UNDER THE FEDERAL
ACT TO PLAN AND DEVELOP HEALTH RESOURCES FOR A HEALTH
SERVICE AREA.

REVISOR'S NOTE: This subsection is new language derived
without substantive change from former Article
41, § 59D(c).

The term "health systems agency" is substituted
for "area wide health systems agency", as the
defined term, for brevity and conformity to the
terminology in the Federal Act.

The reference to the "United States Secretary of
Health and Human Services" is substituted for the
reference'; to the "Secretary of Health, Education
and Welfare", to conform to current terminology.

The defined term "health service area" is
substituted for the reference to "a specific
geographic region of the State", for clarity.

The former reference to organization of the body
is deleted as unnecessary.

"STATE AGENCY" MEANS THE STATE HEALTH PLANNING AND
DEVELOPMENT AGENCY.
