       Maryland Prince Georges County to wit  I hereby certify
       that James Richard Barton the bearer hereof
       a Bright Mulatto Man about twenty one
       years of age five feet nine inches high lost
       the first part of the middle finger on the
       left hand is a free man being the
       Descendant of Nancy Barton a free
       Woman of Colour

                      Given under my hand and seal
                      of office this first day of September
                      in the year of our Lord Eighteen
                      hundred and Eighteen
