       Maryland Prince Georges County sct

       I hereby certify that I have received satisfactory
       evidence that the bearer hereof a Black man
       who calls himself Augustus Butler about
       twenty three years of age about five feet
       six Inches high having a large scar on his
       left hand occasioned by a cut is a free man
       being the reputed son of Henry Butler who
       recovered her freedom in the General Court of
       the State of Maryland in a suit against
       Thomas Clagett at May Term seventeen
       Hundred and ninety Two

                            In testimony whereof I have
                            hereto set my hand and affixed
       (seal)             the seal of the County Court
                            of the County aforesaid Anno
                            Domini Eighteen hundred and
                            nineteen
