       Maryland Prince Georges County Sc.t  I hereby
       certify that the bearer hereof a black man
       named Plater who was twenty one years old in
       January last of a very dark complexion
       about five feet four inches high has scar
       a little above his left heel is a free man
       being the son of Phillis a colourd woman
       who obtained her freedom by virtue of a
       deed of manumission from Samuel Snowden
       bearing date the 3.d day of the 8.th Month in the
       year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred
       and eighty five and recorded among the
       Land Records of Prince Georges County

          (Seal)      In Testimony whereof I do hereunto
       subscribe my name & affix the seal of
