90 originally been born free said negroes being of healthy constitution sound in mind and body capable by labour to procure to themselves sufficient food and raiment with other requisite necessaries of life and at the date of the deed of Manumission aforesaid of the ages respectively therein stated and specified the youngest Marean Clarke being now at the age of seventeen years and Hessey the oldest Child of the age of thirty years In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal the fifth day of July in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty four his Signed Sealed and delivered in the presence Daniel x Ross (seal) of the words "now Mary Thompson" mark first interlined W Thompson Jas H. Lusby At the foot of the aforegoing was thus written to wit District of Columbia Washington County Sct I hereby certify that on this fifth day of July in the year eighteen hundred and fifty four before the subscriber a Justice of the peace in and for said County personally appeared Daniel Ross a free mulatto party to the aforegoing instrument of writing and acknowledged the same to be his act and deed according to the purport true intent and meaning thereof and Act of the General Assembly of Maryland in force in this district in such case made and provided. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand P M. Pearson J P (seal) District of Columbia Washington County to wit I John A Smith Clerk of the Circuit Court of the District of Columbia for the County of Washington hereby certify that P M. Pearson Esq before whom the above annexed acknowledgment was made and who has thereto subscribed his name was at the time thereof |
