called Terry hath made application to me for a certificate
of her freedom agreeably to act of assembly
          I do therefore upon the Oath of Mr James Orrell
that the said Girl to whom this Certificate is delivered
is the identical person named in the manumission
above recited; Certify that (upon the information of
Mr Orrell) the said negro Girl called Terry is about
seventeen years (of age) she is five feet high; Tolerable
Chunky built of a yellowish Complexion was
raised in Caroline County and has not ny
notable marks that I can discover
       In Testimony whereof I have hereto set my hand
and affixed the public seal of my office this fifth
day of February Anno Domini 1812

Caroline to wit   Be it remembered that on this fifth day
of Feby 1812 I delivered to negro Valentine a
Certificate as follows Vizt
             Maryland ss Caroline County to wit
whereas heretofore to wit on the twentieth day of January
in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and
eighty nine James Harriss of Caroline County by Deed
of manumission duly executed acknowledged and
recorded amongst the records of Caroline County manumitted
and set free a certain negro a mulatto
man called Valentine to be free and at liberty
on the first day of January seventeen hundred
and ninety two.  And Whereas the said Valentine
hath made application to me for a certificate of
his freedom agreeably to act of assembly and being
satisfied by the affirmation of John Dawson that
the said Valentine to whom this certificate is
delivered is the identical person mentioned in
the manumission above recited I do therefore grant
his said application and hereby certify that agreeably
to the age expressed in the manumission aforesaid
the said Valentine is about forty two years of age
he is five feet eleven inches and half an inch
