54 high a stout strong looking man of his age was raised in Caroline County and is of a tolerable dark Complexion is marked about the left eye considerably by the small Pox has large high Cheek bones a scar between his fore finger and thumb of his right hand and a scar on his great Toe's of both feet and no other notable marks which I can discover In Testimony whereof I have hereto set my hand and affixed the public seal of my Office this seventeenth day of March Anno Domini one thousand eight hundred and twelve Tho Richardson Clerk (seal) of Caroline County Court Caroline County to wit Be it remembered that on this 17 August 1812 I delivered to negro Daniel Downes a Certificate as follows Viz Maryland sc Caroline County to wit Whereas heretofore to wit the twentieth day of April in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and eleven Joseph Talbot of Caroline County by Deed of manumission duly executed acknowledged and recorded amongst the Records of Caroline County manumitted and set free a certain negro man called Daniel Dudley alias Daniel Downes to be free and at liberty from and after the date of the said manumission. And whereas the said negro Daniel Dudley alias Daniel Downes hath made application to me for a certificate of his freedom agreeably to the act of assembly in such case made and provided and being satisfied by the Oath of Emory Cramer that the said Daniel Dudley alias Daniel Downes to whom this certificate is delivered is the identical person mentioned in the manumission above recited. I do therefore grant his said application the manumission afd the said Daniel Dudley alias Daniel Downes is about forty one years of age he |
