And whereas by an Act of Assembly, entituled, An Act for issuing
and paying out of the Office of the Commissioners or Trustees for
emitting Bills of Credit, established by Act of Assembly, the Sum

Recital of a
former Law
for levying
Money
|
of Two Thousand Five Hundred and Sixty-two Pounds Ten Shil-
lings, Current Money, in Bills of Credit, for the encouragement of
Persons voluntarily inlisting themselves in His Majesty's Service,
it is Enacted, That the said Sum of Money was to be assessed on the
taxable Inhabitants of this Province, in the publick Levy, in three
different Years, by three equal Portions, that is to say, One Third
Part to be assessed in the Public Levy, which should be in the Year
of our Lord One Thousand Seven Hundred and Forty-one; and the
other Two Third Parts in the two succeeding Years severally.
And whereas there is still remaining one Payment more to be
made to the said Commissioners to compleat the said Sum of Two

Thousand Five Hundred and Sixty-two Pounds Ten Shillings Cur-
rent Money in Bills of Credit, to be taxed on the taxable Inhabitants
of this Province, in the Public Levy, this Year.
Be it Enacted by the Authority aforesaid, That the said Commit-
tee, or the major Part of them, shall settle and assess the remaining

Part of the said Sum of Money, as shall appear to them to be still
due to the Commissioners aforesaid, according to the Directions of
the said recited Act, on the taxable Inhabitants aforesaid, by equal
Portions, in the same Manner as is by the said Act directed to be
assessed and apportioned.
And be it further Enacted, That the several and respective Sheriffs

aforesaid, shall, and are hereby obliged to collect and levy so much
of the aforesaid Sums of Money and Tobacco as to them shall respec-
tively by the Committee aforesaid be appointed, and the same to pay
to the several Persons, and in such Proportion as by the said Com-
mittee, or the major Part of them, shall be directed.
And be it further Enacted by the Authority aforesaid, That the
said Sums and Quantity of Tobacco, shall and may be collected and
levied by way of Execution, in such Manner as the County Levies
are usually collected: Always saving to the good People of this Prov-
ince, their Right in discharging the Tobacco Assessments in Current
Money as by the Laws of this Province are provided.
