56 LAWS OF MARYLAND.

CHAPTER 52.

AN ACT entitled a supplement and amendment
to an Act entitled, "An Act to incorporate the
People's Gas Company, of Baltimore City,"
passed at January session, eighteen hundred and
sixty, Chapter two hundred and ninety-one, re-
affirming said Act, and authorizing said Com-
pany to receive real estate, stocks, bonds, and
other property, in payment for subscriptions to
the capital stock, and to make payments for
material and labor in the capital stock creating
the office of the vice-president and providing for
his election, decreasing the number of directors
in said Company to five, and amending the
second section of said Act, so that the capital
may be increased "by" any amount not ex-
ceeding two millions of dollars, in place of "for"
any amount not exceeding said sum:

 

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That the second section of an Act
entitled, " An Act to incorporate the People's Gas
Company of Baltimore City," passed at January
session, eighteen hundred and sixty, Chapter two

by amended by the substitution of the word "by"
in place of the word "for," before the words "any
amount not exceeding," etc , and the said Com-
pany is hereby authorized and empowered to re-
ceive in payment of subscriptions to its capital
stock, in addition to the shares subscribed in the
hands of the Commissioners, and those already

real estate, bonds, stocks, or other property, at a
valuation agreed upon between the directors of the
said Company and the subscriber, and to make
payments for materials and labor in the shares of
the capital stock.

Sec. 2. And be it enacted, That the number of
the directors of the said Company shall be not less
