              Greetings Know yee that wee for ye great trust & Confidence we have in yr fidelities Circumspections

              prudences and Wisedomes have Constituted Ordained and appointed & doe by these presents Constitute

              Ordaine and appoint you the said ffrancis Jenckins John Winder William Whittington James

              Dashiell Roger Woolford Thomas Dixon Matthew Scarbrough John Bosman, George Layfield Thomas

              Newbold Samuel Hopkins, James Round , Edmund Howard Thomas Jones John King Stephen Horsey

              and Arnold Elzey Comissionrs jointly & Severally to keep the Peace in Somerset County and to keep &

              Cause to be kept all Laws and Orders for the good and Conservation of ye Peace and for the quiet Rule &

              Government of the People in all and every the Articles of the Same and to Chastise punish all

              Persons offending agt the forme of any of the laws & Orders of this our Province or any of them

              in Somerset County afd as according to the forme of the Said Laws & Orders shall be fitt to be done Wee

              have also Constituted & ordained you or any four or more of yw Of which you the Said ffrancis Jenckins

              John Winder William Whittington James Dashiell, Roger Woolford Thomas Dixon Matthew Scarbrough

              John: Bosman & George Layfield or one of you are allwayes to be one of ye Comissioners to enquire by

              the Oaths of good and lawfull Men of you County afd of all manner of fellonies witchcrafts —

              Inchantments, Sorceries, Magick art, Trespasses forestalllings Ingrossings & Extortions whatsoever

              and of all and Singular other misdeeds & Offences Excepting matter relateing to titles of Law

              of which Justices of the Peace of England may or ought lawfully to enquire, by whomsoever or whatsoever

              done or perpetuated, or which hereafter shall happen to be done or perpetrated in the County aforesd

              against the Laws and Orders of this our Province, Provided that you proceed not in any of the Cases –

              aforesd to take life or member, but that in every Such Case, you Send the Prisoners with their indictmts

              & the whole matters depending before you to the next Provinciall Court to be holden for this or Province

              whensoever or wheresoever holden, there to be tryed, And further wee doe hereby authorize yw to issue

              out Writts processes or arrests & Attachments to hold plea of Oyer and Terminer in all accons not

              exceeding the Sum of tenn thousand pounds of tobacco, and after judgment Execution to Award in

              all Causes Civil, whether in accons real or personall, according to the Laws Orders & reasonable Customs

              made and used in this our Province of Maryland, in which Causes Civil soe to be tryed (Excepting as

              before Excepted) Wee doe Constitute Ordaine and appoint you the Several & respective Persons sfore
