hereby authorised to cause to be erected over the Antietam
creek, upon the best practicable site, at or near where the
road from Sharpsburgh to the Maple Swamp crosses said
creek a substantial Stone Bridge, upon such place, terms,
and conditions and under such superintendence as they may
deem most conducive to the public interest, and that they

be and are hereby authorised to levy on the assessable pro
petty of said county, such sum or sums of money, as they
shall deem necessary to defray all the expenses incurred in
the election of said Bridge

CHAPTER 185

An act relating to Run Alley, in the City of Baltimore,

Passed Mar. 12, 1835

Section I Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Ma-
ryland, That the Mayor and City Council of Baltimore,
shall be and they are hereby authorised to provide for in
creasing the width of Run Alley, in the said city, to the ex-
tent of not more than sixty feet from the present eastern
side of the said alley, and for straightening the said alley
from Fayette street, southerly, by opening and continuing it
in a direct line and of uniform breadth, from Fayette street

to Park lane, and also for continuing the said alley thus
widened, from Park lane to Baltimore street Provided all
days, that before any property of any person or corporation
shall be taken destroyed, impaired, removed, or used for
either of the purposes aforesaid, the assent of the owner
shall either be first obtained, or provision made for paying or
securing to be paid to such owner, a just compensation for
the destruction injury removal or use of his or her property
and provided also that the said Mayor and City Council, it

they should approve of the provisions of this act as is herein-
after provided may in their discretion specially except in
their ordinances or resolution of approbation so much here
of as relates to the continuation of the said alley, from Park
lane to Baltimore street

Sec 2. And be it enacted, That the Mayor and City
Council shall be, and they are hereby further authorised to
provide for making all such changes in the grade of the said
alley, and in the grades of the several streets which adjoin or
intersect it, as may be best adapted to render the said alley
