84 To all whom it may concern Be it Known that I William Brewer of the city of Annapolis and state of Maryland for divers good causes and in consideration me thereunto moving as also in further consideration of five dollars current money to me in hand paid have released from slavery liberated manumitted and set free and by these presents do hereby release from slavery liberate manumit and set free on this twenty eighth day of January eighteen hundred and fifty four my negro woman named Mary Harwood being of the age of twenty seven years and able to work and gain a sufficient livelihood and maintenance the said negro woman Mary Harwood I declare to be free manumitted and discharged from all manner of servitude or service to me my heirs executors or administrators from the period above mentioned and expires in this deed of Manumission and all the increase of said negro woman also to be free if she has any after the period above mentioned In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affix my seal this twenty eighth day of January eighteen hundred and fifty four Signed Sealed and delivered in the presence of Wm Brewer (seal) John E. Stalker Louis G Gassaway Anne Arundel County Sct Be it remembered that on this twenty eighth day of January eighteen hundred and fifty four personally appears William Brewer party to the within instrument of writing before me a justice of the Peace of the State of Maryland for Anne Arundel County and acknowledges the same to be his act and deed for the purposes within mentioned paid Acknowledged before 62½ Recorded the 6th day of Feb 1854 John E Stalker Ex d.d d |
