85 To all whom it may concern Be it Known that I William Brewer of the city of Annapolis and state of Maryland for divers good causes and considerations me thereunto moving as also in further consideration of five dollars current money to me in hand paid have released from slavery liberated manumitted and set free and by these presents do hereby release from slavery liberate manumit and set free on this twenty fourth day of January eighteen hundred and sixty two my negro girl named Nancy Harwood being of the age of twenty eight years and able to work and gain a sufficient livelihood and maintenance the said negro girl Nancy Harwood I declare to be free manumitted and discharged from all manner of servitude or service to me my heirs executors or administrators at the expiration of the period above mentioned and expressed in this deed of manumission and all the increase of said negro girl also to be free at their respective ages boys at the age of twenty one and the girls at the age of eighteen In Testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affix my seal this twenty fourth day of January eighteen hundred and fifty four Signed Sealed and delivered in the presence of Nichs Brewer Jr Wm Brewer (seal) John E. Stalker Anne Arundel County Sct Be it remembered that on this twenty eighth day of January eighteen hundred and fifty four personally appears Wm Brewer party ^to^ the within named instrument of writing before me a justice of the Peace of the State of Maryland for Anne Arundel County and acknowledges the same to be his act and deed for the purposes within mentioned Acknowledged before paid John E Stalker 62½ Recorded the 6th day of February 1854 Ex d d d |
