At the foot of the aforegoing was thus written to wit
State of Maryland      Anne Arundel County to wit
On this third day of March in the year of our Lord one
thousand eight hundred and fifty four personally appears
Thomas Burley party to the foregoing deed or Manumission or
Instrument of writing before me the subscriber a Justice of the
peace of the state of Maryland in and for Anne Arundel County
aforesaid he being personally Known to me as the person who
is named and described as and professing to be a party to the
foregoing deed or Instrument of writing and acknowledges the
same to be his act and deed for the purposes therein mentioned
and the several persons the said named and so forth to be
henceforth manumitted and discharged from all services to him
or to any claiming under him and to be free and manumitted
according to the Act of Assembly in such case made and provided

To all whom it may concern be it Known that whereas Eliza J.
Shaw in consideration of the sum of one hundred and fifty
dollars to her in cash paid and in consideration of the agreement
of one James Kennard the slave of the said Eliza J. Shaw to pay
her the sum of eight dollars per month until the sum of four
hundred and fifty dollars in addition to the aforementioned
cash payment with interest should be paid on the twenty first
day of November in the year of our Lord eight hundred and
forty nine execute and delivered to Richard W. Gill of the
city of Annapolis now deceased a bill of sale of the said
James Kennard with the condition that upon the full and
complete payment of the above sum of four hundred and fifty
dollars with interest as above specified by the said Kennard
