to the said Eliza J Shaw the said Richard W Gill should
manumit and set free the said James Kennard and whereas
the said James Kennard have fully paid and satisfied unto the
said Eliza J Shaw the said sum with interest as by the receipt
of the said Eliza J. Shaw of this date will fully appear and whereas
by the said bill of sale I Anne E. Gill as administrator of the said
Richard W Gill are authorized and empowered to execute
these presents and the consent of the said Eliza J Shaw has
also been given for that purpose.  Therefore be it Known that I
Ann E. Gill of the city of Annapolis in Anne Arundel County
and state of Maryland for and in consideration of the premises
and divers other causes and considerations of thereunto me moving
and as administrators of the said Richard W Gill have
released from slavery liberated manumitted and set free
and by these presents do hereby release from slavery liberate
manumit and set free the said James Kennard a negro
man being of the age of thirty three years and able to work
and gain a sufficient livelihood and maintenance and him
the said negro man named James Kennard I do declare to be
henceforth free manumitted and discharged from all manner
of service or servitude to me my executors or administrators
forever               In witness whereof I have hereunto set my
hand and affixed my seal on this twenty eight day of June
in the year of our Lord eighteen hundred and fifty four

On the back of the aforegoing was thus written to wit
State of Maryland            Anne Arundel County to wit
Be it remembered and it is hereby certified that on this
twenty sixth day of June in the year of our Lord eighteen
hundred and fifty four before the subscriber a Justice
of the peace of the state of Maryland in and for the County
aforesaid personally appeared Anne E. Gill administrators
sum testamento annexo of Richard W Gill deceased and who
